ADVENTURE TRAVEL INSURANCE and CANCELLATION POLICY
Alpine Interface acts as one of the brokers for AIG TravelGuard
Adventure Travel Protection Plan.
This is an insurance package that is made especially for the active adventure traveller, and cannot be purchased independently at AIG.
Why AIG Adventure Travel Insurance Plan?
Many travel insurance policies offered nowadays do not cover adventure travel activities such as hiking, trekking, mountaineering, skiing, sea kayaking or snowshoeing.
Make sure to take the time to read the fine print before buying a conventional policy for your adventure travels!
The AIG adventure travel protection plan, however, is especially designed for the type of trips Alpine Interface offers.
The Adventure Travel Protection Plan is only available through brokerage by an Adventure Travel Tour Operator, and cannot be purchased at AIG directly in that format.
What is Covered and what are the limits (in brackets)?
Trip cancellation (trip cost), trip interruption (trip cost), emergency evacuation (US$500,000), medical expense (US$25,000), adventure travel equipment loss (US$ 2500), adventure travel equipment delay (US$ 250)
An optional umbrella package costs very little more, but offers you double the medical expense limit (from $25,000 to $50,000) and makes your insurance benefit primary instead of waiting to see which other of your insurance providers will pay out first.
Generally, you can (and should) insure other prepaid trip cost in addition to the cost of the trip package purchased from Alpine Interface, such as your flight and possibly your rental car. Insurable are all expenses that you would loose, if you where to get sick / injured right before your trip starts.
For a complete description of coverage, please download our Adventure Travel Protection Plan Coverage description file (pdf).
What information do we require for a quote?
1) Your age
2) The total amount of your trip cost (if you want to insure parts of your trip that are not included in your trip package with Alpine Interface, such as your air travel or car rental).
Pricing example
You are 62 and are booked for our Dolomites Traverse (Trip cost: US$ 3100):
Policy price is US$ 219, the additional umbrella package is US$ 22.
The policy incurs a service fee of US$ 6, the umbrella package a service fee of US$ 3, they are not included in the premium.
You would also like to insure your air travel expenses of US$ 1500:
Policy price is US$ 351, additional umbrella package is US$ 22.
Who can buy the AIG Adventure Travel Insurance Policy?
Canadians and Americans (excluding those living in the State of Washington). For our other clients (European, Australian....) we gladly refer you to a different AIG plan named Worldwide Health, which offers similar benefits at similar prices.
Other advantages of the AIG Adventure Travel Protection Plan:
1) If you sign up for the insurance policy within 15 days of making your trip deposit with Alpine Interface Inc., AIG will waive all pre-existing conditions for ALL family members if an emergency should arise.
2) There is a satisfaction guarantee of 15 days with full refund (minus a processing fee of US$ 9).
3) The coverage is based on a 30-day trip, so arrival/departure date should be the date that you leave and arrive back home. Your coverage cost will change if your trip exceeds 30 days - please let us know this detail when we prepare your quote.
4) AIG offers services 24 hours/day, 7 days a week. They have a travel agent team that can help if a flight is canceled / delayed - you simply have to call AIG and they accept collect calls. AIG also has an emergency medical team, so they can start helping make arrangements to get you cared for in the best possible manner and transported back to your place of residence.
How can you get a quote and subscribe?
We will provide a quote for you based on your age and total trip price during the booking process. If you want to purchase the policy, we will submit your application to AIG (we will just need your credit card number and expiry date to process the insurance fee). You will then receive a hard copy directly in the mail straight from AIG so you can review the entire policy. If there is anything you don't like about the policy, you have 15 days to cancel for a refund (100% of premium paid minus an administrative fee of 9% maximum per policy)
What if I want to insure my air travel but I haven't booked it yet?
If you make a deposit, but haven't booked airfare yet, and you want it to be covered, we can either estimate the cost of airfare and include it in the policy, or we can leave out the airfare and once the amount is determined, we can modify the policy and increase the dollar value to the correct value including airfare. You have 15 days from the day of buying your initial insurance package to include other components of your AIG Adventure Travel Protection Plan.
