Hiking in Crete - Coastal Walks
As hiking tours in Greece go, Crete is a must:
It is a hikers' and walker's paradise with over 300 days of sunshine per year.
Our hiking tour in Crete focuses on the European 4 walking path that traverses the island starting at the westernmost point, Elafonisi and follows the west and south-western coasts.
The moderate hiking trails are well maintained and follow the azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea, which allows us ample time for a swim during lunch breaks or after a day's trek.
500 hundred-year-old olive orchards and vineyards provide shade for us as we follow ancient paths and old Roman roads, where hill top villages welcome us and allow stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea.
With few roads reaching this part of Crete, the walking trails are often empty during the months of May and June. Being Greece's southernmost island, Crete benefits from warm temperatures early on in the walking season. With the wet season behind us, we can be assured of fields of wildflowers, balmy temperatures and trails with few walkers along beaches and through gorges such as Samaria, Europe's longest. » MORE
