Alpine Interface: France Walking and Hiking Travel Links

Many of our guests who come to France for an Alpine Interface trip arrive there either a few days earlier, or stay on after their hike.
And often, we get the same questions regarding where to eat, what else there is to do in town, etc.

The following list is a quick summary of where to get more information, favorite hotels, restaurants, etc.
We will update this page regularly, and welcome any comments/information you might have regarding our links.

We have divided them into following locations:

  1. PROVENCE
  2. NORMANDY

Provence

How to get there?
All our clients are met in Avignon, which can be reached by plane or by train.
There are several flights per day from Paris Orly to Avignon.

Avignon Airport

By train: Avignon is connected to the French bullet train system called 'TGV'.
Avignon can be reached from Paris in approx. 2 hours and 30 minutes, while writing this information, there are 12 trains per day.

Rail Europe: TGV tickets : Check prices and availabilities.

Getting around in Provence:
There is obviously the option to get around by train and buses, however, you will be far more flexible and are also able to see more if you rent a car. Go and visit villages at your leisure, stay in restaurants or visit markets as long as you like, and even renting a bike for a day or two is a very good idea to get a better impression of the countryside. (Especially all the smells Provence is famous for...).

The buses also run on a regular basis, however, the only run from Servoz to Argentiere and Le Tour. There is no bus service to Vallorcine.
During the summer months, there is a bus from Chamonix to the Col des Montets, several times daily. Please ask at the Tourist Office for more details.

By far the easiest solution is to fly to Paris, and then take the train to Rouen.
The trains take 1h - 1h30min, and they leave Paris approx. every two hour.

You would have to get from the Charles de Gaulles airport to the Paris St. Lazare train station. Buses from the airport to the St. Lazare station leave every 15 minutes, and the metro is also offering its service.

.
The national airport of Rouen can be reached via Lyon, and is serviced by Air France.
