1. How will I get to the start of my AI trip?
There are three possible airports you could fly into, the closest to Newtonmore is Inverness.
The other two would be Glasgow and Edinburgh. From both airports it is easy to take the train to get to Newtonmore, and in case the train doesn't stop there, it will in Kingussie, which is 3 km from Newtonmore. Depending on which time you will be arriving, we will either pick you up at the train station, or send a taxi to bring you to Newtonmore from Kingussie.
Our last night will be spent in Glasgow. The easiest would be to fly into Inverness or Edinburgh, and then leave from Glasgow. For more details, please have a look at our Scotland resource page, which will give you plenty of links for travel within Scotland.,
3. What about the Highland Midges, and how much a nuisance are they?
The Highland Midges are famous, and that's for a reason: They are a real pest, and are abundant especially during warm, cloudy and humid summer days. They don't like the wind, and they don't like bright, sunny days. Since Scotland is also famous for its weather, we will most likely encounter some of these little critters.
However, our trips are scheduled in May/June and late September to avoid the summer months, which means High Season for the Midges.
4. What if my flights are very early in the morning or late in the evening?
Depending on which city have chosen to fly into, you might have to arrive a day earlier, or leave a day later. Our last night is spent in Glasgow, so if you fly out early from Glasgow, it wouldn't be a problem. If you fly out from Edinburgh or Inverness, make sure there are early trains that get you there in time. If you have any questions, please contact us, and we will assist you with your travel plans.
5. What should I expect from the hotels/inns in Scotland?
During our trip, we will stay in charming, authentic Scottish country inns. Accommodation is in double rooms, ensuite. If you prefer single accommodation, please contact us.
6: What can I expect from the meals / food during my trip in Scotland with AI?
We will try to let you sample as many Scottish delicacies as possible. During all our trips, we make picnic lunches with local produce, and tend to stay in restaurants/inns that are known for their authentic, hearty and delicious meals.
