We take the stress out of planning your family adventure, and put the fun back in! No wonder our family hiking trips are so popular. From family group hikes to guided hiking for friends, our guided hiking tours create timeless memories.
1: Coastal Walks in Crete
Crete is a wonderful destination for kids and adults alike. Enjoy easy-to-moderate hikes, lots of scrambling through gorges, collecting thyme, taking a refreshing dip in the Mediterranean Sea, taking the ferries to little islands and other places along the coast. Snorkeling, fishing, exploring ancient ruins, and climbing up ancient olive trees! All combined with lots of sun, delicious food, and, the best of all, the Cretans themselves!
2: Tour du Mont Blanc
The Tour du Mont Blanc, or part of it, can easily be done with children. Daily guided hiking can be shortened as needed. Enjoy an overnight stay in family-run, mountain inns and huts, or on hobby farms where local farmers still make their own cheeses, surrounded by alpine meadows and lots of animals. The many treats of this tour include Italian gelati, cable car rides, and lots of exploration on the trails. Kids should be at least 8-9 years old.
3: Bernese Oberland
Traverse the Bernese Oberland, with a combination of day-hikes and through hikes, enjoying cable cars and cog rail trains on the way. Experience pristine mountain lakes, alpine meadows, hearty, homemade meals, cheese, and chocolate! The Bernese Oberland is easy to reach thanks to the efficient Swiss infrastructure, and is perfect for a family vacation in the Alps.
Kids should be 8-9 years of age.
4: Hiking & Via Ferrata in the Dolomites
The Dolomites offer something special for everybody: Short hikes, long hikes, amazing mountain refuges, from very basic to luxurious ones, cable cars, WWI tunnels, amazing food (Austria meets Italy), and lots of easy via ferrate options that are always the highlight for kids, as scrambling just seems the thing they like to do most! Go and explore Venice, take the water taxis, and visit Bolzano to learn about “Oetzi,” a man who lived over 5,000 years ago. Kids should be 7/8 years old.
5: Baja California Sur, Mexico
Baja California is one of the ultimate active beach vacations for families. Hiking, biking, sea-kayaking, snorkeling, fishing, exploring gorges and jumping through waterfalls—it’s all possible in Baja! Kayaking to remote islands to camp for the night is one of many highlights.
Kids should be 6-7 years old and up.
6: Hiking in the Rockies:
The Mountain National Parks offer so much variety. Calgary is easily reached and a two-hour transfer brings you right to the heart in the Rockies, to Banff. Experience scenic cable car rides, easy hikes, walks along creeks and emerald lakes, and boat rides. Along the way, you’ll enjoy overnight stays in rustic mountain huts and luxurious mountain lodges, and visit the Grizzly sanctuary in Golden. You’ll also have access to easy-to-difficult mountain biking, as well as Via Ferrata options. Kids should be about 8 years old or older.
As parents of intrepid kids (now 9 and 12 years old), we do know what keeps them interested—and what keeps parents happy! To learn more about a specific location and options, please contact us.
