This trip is a perfect combination of day-hikes and a Canadian Rockies mountain lodge experience.
After visiting Banff National Park, we take a helicopter to fly into one of the most pristine areas of the Western Rockies. Tucked away in the Lyell Range of the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia, Icefall Lodge is surrounded by large glaciers, magnificent waterfalls and high alpine terrain. With a maximum of 16 guests, the large tenure allows for an almost privately guided experience.
Brown and Black bear are among the large mammals which frequent the area, along with ungulates and bird life. A fully catered and guided experience awaits, with sauna and comfort food after a exciting day on the trails.
Departing from Icefall Lodge, we stop in Lake Louise to hike above Moraine Lake, and stay for our last night in the Canadian Rockies, before heading back to the airport or onto other adventures.
Moderate to Difficult
9 Days, 7 Days of Hiking
Price per person: CAD $4500
Single supplement: CAD $800
Day 1: Arrival Day
We will meet all guests in Banff in our hotel for a briefing and our welcome dinner.
Day 2: Day-Hike, Banff National Park
There are many great day-hikes to choose from, depending on the weather and group ability.
Some of our favourites include Stanley Glacier, Bourgeau Lake & Harvey Pass, Cascade Amphitheatre, or one of the many options in Kananaskis Country!
Day 3: Iceline Trail, Yoho National Park
The trailhead is located at the Takakkaw Falls, and this path allows the group to reach one of the most breathtaking vistas of the trip. We begin to climb steadily out of the valley up to an avalanche slope in order to reach the Alpine terrain lying just below the hanging glaciers on the Vice President. Post glaciated terrain of moraines and braided streams open up to unimpeded views of the Wapta icefields to the east and to the north. The loop can be between 12.8km and 21 kilometres long, depending on group ability and weather. 700 vertical meters of elevation gain (2277ft)
Day 4 – 7: Icefall Lodge, Lyell Mountains
Helicopter Fly-in to Icefall Lodge in the morning. Surrounded by the rugged peaks of the Canadian Rockies, Icefall Lodge is the perfect base for trekking in wilderness solitude. Although the lodge shares a border with Banff National Park, it is far from the crowded hiking trails of Lake Louise and Banff.
Day 8: Moraine Lake, Lake Louise
Morning flight from Icefall Lodge back to the staging area or a morning hike back to the drainage and van transfer, and onwards to Lake Louise to hike near Moraine Lake.
Depending on the weather and the group’s ability, several options are available to lengthen the trek. Our destination for the day is Wenkchemna Pass via Eiffel Lake. We then hike back to Moraine Lake, or add a trip up to the Sentinel Pass, and then onwards to Lake Louise for the evening.
